Sevier County Jail Overview

Sevier County Jail is operated by the Sevier County Sheriff's Office on the sheriff and court campus in Richfield. The county directory lists Jail Commander Cory Hutchings and Lieutenant Matt Mclean for the jail, while Sheriff Nathan J. Curtis heads the Sheriff's Office. The jail is not a state prison, federal prison, or juvenile facility. It is the adult county correctional facility for local booking, short county sentences, and other jail housing that the sheriff is authorized to manage.

The sheriff's welcome page describes a facility staffed by detention deputies and able to house local inmates, inmates for three counties, and Utah Department of Corrections placement inmates. That matters for lookup work. A person physically held in Sevier County Jail may be a pretrial county detainee, a county-sentenced inmate, a person held for another local agency, or a state corrections placement inmate under UDC supervision.

Sevier County Jail Records

Utah's Government Records Access and Management Act, or GRAMA, controls public records requests to Utah government agencies. The sheriff's records page says requests are made in person during business hours, with a request form and a fulfillment period of 10 business days. The sheriff's GRAMA form asks for requester contact details, the office receiving the request, a reasonably specific description of the records, preferred format, and fee-waiver or cost-limit information.

Sevier County Jail Visits

The sheriff's video visitation page says no face-to-face in-person visits are offered at Sevier County Jail. Onsite visits are video visits, and inmates are allowed two free onsite video visits per week. Visitors still need a JailATM account, including for jail-lobby video visiting. Remote camera visits are available for a fee, and the handbook also names video and messaging functions tied to tablets and accounts.

Sevier County Jail Mail

Personal mail should use the inmate's full name and the jail mailing address. Jail staff may open and read regular mail. Legal mail must be clearly marked as legal mail and is opened in the inmate's presence, verified, checked for contraband, and then given to the inmate. Soft-bound books can be ordered from Amazon and sent direct under the sheriff page, while hardback books, cash, personal checks, maps, stamps, envelopes, packages without approval, coded letters, laminated items, stickers, trading cards, and pornography are restricted or banned.

Phone and tablet access are handled through ICSolutions. The handbook says inmates cannot receive incoming calls, calls may be monitored, three-way calling can disconnect a call, and each inmate receives two free phone calls each week. Tablets are a privilege. Sharing PINs, video visits, or phone calls is prohibited, and intentional tablet damage can lead to discipline or criminal charges.

Commissary rules in the handbook set a $75 weekly order limit, a Sunday 2300 hours order deadline, and Tuesday finalization, filling, and shipping, excluding holidays. Indigent commissary is available under the handbook's definition for inmates with no funds at booking or very low funds after account money is used.

Sevier County Jail Booking

Adults arrested by the Sheriff's Office, Richfield police, Salina, Monroe, Aurora, or another local agency may be taken to Sevier County Jail for intake. Booking usually records identity, property, arresting agency, date and time, custody basis, and release information. Utah county jail reporting law requires county jails to track booked-prisoner data for state reporting, but that reporting law is not the same as a live public roster.

At intake, jail staff can screen for medical and mental-health needs, inventory property, classify housing, and provide access to phones and tablets after booking conditions allow. The handbook says routine and emergency medical care are available, and no inmate is refused medical treatment because of inability to pay. Court events may follow quickly, but jail booking charges and formal prosecutor-filed charges are not always identical.

Sevier County Jail Programs

The inmate handbook describes a jail philosophy built around humane treatment, accountability, and reintegration. Jail-provided basics include meals, clean bedding and clothing, basic toiletries, showers, exercise, mail access, attorney and clergy visits, and access to medical, mental, and dental care. Religious and rehabilitation programs are referenced, but no separate public program schedule was located.

Grievance and safety channels are also part of the conditions record. The handbook says an inmate who feels unsafe can contact an on-duty deputy, submit a tablet request, or use the cell button to reach control-room staff. Denied mail can be appealed through grievance procedures. Major disciplinary appeals go to the Jail Commander and must be started within seven days.
